Chestnut Blight produced by Cryphonectria parasitica (Murrill) Barr.

Chestnut orchard in Sierra de Prades (Tarragona, NE Spain)

The chesnut trees have all died because of the blight and the orchard is now abandoned.

This branch died in one summer after the fungus attack.
Leaves of dead branches do not fall in the autumn.
The cracks in the branch insertion point are one of the possible ways for fungi to infect the tree.

Canker produced by the fungus. The tree resprouts below the canker.
