Sirococcus conigenus Cannon & Minter (Sin: S. strobilinus Preuss)

First symptoms are brown needles in early summer.

 

Detail of dead buds with needles pointing down.

Previous year attack has defoliated the lower third of the crown.

In a heavy attack, defoliation can affect almost the whole crown.
Picnidia at the basis of the needle bundle.
Bundles curved down.
